Well, my tree, actually. We had a limb trimmed from the pepper tree and it made an excellent mounting spot. With some leftover luan (harder than the cedar and just as weather resistant), I was able to make a mounting platform… and with some hardware trickery*, the birdhouse is now mounted.
* And by trickery, I mean that there's a 3/8in threaded rod under/within the aluminum tube above. The rod is affixed to both the house-base and platform with a cap nut and stainless washer on one side and a jam-nut and washer on the other — creating a tight mounting flange/plate of sorts (with the wood sandwiched between them). The aluminum tube was cut to length, polished and slipped over the threaded rod hiding the rod and nuts which makes for a pretty clean install. Much more attractive and just as stable as a cast iron pipe and flange from the plumbing aisle.
