Kapo’s Triple Play

Kapo was looking for a very long, low entertainment console — 12 feet long. Unfortunately, we can only make (and ship) up to about 8 feet, so we worked out a design of three separate symmetrical units at about 4ft each in length. Each unit has reversible (color/walnut) sliding doors and is drilled so that the shelves and panels are swappable and/or movable between the three.

Since these were a three-up set, I wanted to get a bit of "automation" set-up and with this order, I was able to make jigs and templates to make manufacturing a bit quicker and more accurate.

These will ship ready-to-assemble to New York in a few days in their own custom crate.

Lauren’s New Shelves

Lauren contacted me through the blog and wanted a slightly larger CSSU. We spec-ed out a 60in X 15.5 X 32in version in walnut and white — everyone's new favorite color combination (mine, too).

She wanted an additional back panel, so this is a great opportunity to show how panels can attach to the outside of the standards. Typically, panels look a bit neater when inset within the legs, but in cases where the CSSU is going against a wall, this is a nice option.

She's also in Atlanta, so after the photoshoot here, I'll be disassembling them and crating them for transport.

Introducing: The Integrated CSSU

I just finished off the most ambitious build to date and have launched the latest CSSU version… the Integrated CSSU which integrates audio into the CSSU concept: think gaming centers, turntable stands, entertainment units, etc.

The first unit was built as an entertainment center to house standard-width (17in) audio gear. It is a standard depth of 14in, but we can also build a deeper 18 or 20in version for deeper components. It features integrated 2-way acoustic-suspension speakers constructed as separate pieces prior to integration into the CSSU — they're quite robust… and they look, and sound, fantastic.

Some features of the series:

  • Traditional CSSU construction with anodized aluminum standards, optional adjustable feet, maple or birch main shelving with a choice of contrasting wood or colors.
  • 6.5in or 8in 2-way speakers with poly or kevlar woofers in an acoustic-suspension design
  • Dual-voice center channel and subwoofer (passive or active) available
  • White, frameless speaker grills
  • Adjustable center shelves
  • 18.5in bays to accommodate standard-width audio gear
  • Customizable speaker width (see below designs)

The first unit was constructed of Baltic birch main shelves with teak veneered speakers (6.5in poly cones). It features adjustable feet and comes in at 56(w)x14(d)x24(h). Click on the phots for larger, clearer versions and contact me if you're interested in spec-ing out your own Integrated CSSU.

Jennifer’s New Coffee Table

Jennifer contacted me a few weeks ago about some custom benches. She mentioned that she was eventually looking for a coffee table. As it turned out, I had some excess stock that suited the job quite well. I contacted her on Monday about the idea and sent her a comp-sketch and had it finished by Thursday afternoon.

Tom’s New Shelves

Tom dropped me a line after hearing good things from Brent about his own shelves.

I just pulled this off the workbench and the lighting isn't as nice under the shop-lights, but I wanted to get a post up as soon as I could. It's is a bit wider than standard at 55in wide. It features the same color palette as Eszter's with adjustable walnut feet.
