Prototypes: Bench-cabinets (for sale… $250/set)

In order to test both the new material choice and the new design option, I made up these two charming little bench-cabinets. They are 17-18in tall — bench height — and serve as both seating as well as storage. And they're for sale… $250 for the set (a significant discount for the prototypes). Imagine these by the door or bed (shoes, etc.) …

They use our standard maple multi-ply as their core, but utilize the last of a beautiful run of natural-birch panels along with teak feet. The same composite material is used for the sliding door pulls. A light lacquer + wax/oil finish tops them off.

• The double-decker cabinet measures 10.5in deep and 21in wide … it is lined and backed with birch (bottom bay open in the back).

• The single-decker cabinet measures 14in deep and 29in wide. … it is lined with R/C (sides) and backed with birch.

• Both stand exactly the same height (and have the same stance) at 17.75 – 18.5in tall (w/ adjustable feet) … the shop chair is pictured for scale. They're prefect seating height for an impromptu squat and are quite sturdy.

They're available immediately as a set for $250. Shipping is possible, but local pickup or delivery would, of course, be more cost effective.
